What is CNC Machining?
CNC machining is a term that is commonly used in industrial and manufacturing applications, but what does the CNC stand for? The term CNC means 'computer numerical control.' The definition is that CNC machining is a subtractive manufacturing process which uses machine tools and computerized controls in order to remove layers of of different materials from a stock product, also known as the blank, or work-peice. This process produces a custom-designed part. This type of process works well with a wide range of materials, including but not limited to composites, wood, glass, foam, plastics, and metals. CNC machining is often contrasted to processes such as 3D printing and liquid injection molding. The automated nature of the process creates high accuracy and high precision. It is very cost-effective.
